MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 16-year-old driving a stolen car caused a five-car pileup in Hickory Hill, Memphis, resulting in three deaths and six injuries, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when officers attempted to stop the teenager near Getwell Road and Cottonwood. The teen, who had allegedly stolen the car from Shadowbrook Apartments on August 19 using rifles and handguns, fled from the police.
After evading officers, the teen ran a red light at the intersection of Kirby Parkway and East Raines Road, leading to a violent crash involving five vehicles. Two women, identified as 26-year-old Shekila Sively and 47-year-old Patrice Hughes, died at the scene. Another woman, 26-year-old Dantrice Stanback, was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. A 2-year-old girl was also hurt and initially reported in non-critical condition but was later listed as critical by her family.
The teen driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, has been charged with aggravated robbery, evading arrest, and possessing prohibited weapons, including a machine gun. After receiving medical treatment, the teenager was taken to juvenile court.
Footage shows the moments leading up to the crash, including one vehicle bursting into flames. Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the incident. MPD confirmed that others involved in the crash have either been released from medical care or suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
