McALLEN, Texas — A fatal accident at a house party in McAllen, Texas, led to the death of a Nikki Rowe High School student, identified as Adan De La Cruz. According to police reports, De La Cruz attempted to jump from a roof into a swimming pool but slipped, falling to the ground and hitting his head on the night of August 17.
McAllen police were dispatched to the scene at around 11:39 p.m. As they arrived, they saw numerous minors fleeing the residence and found red plastic cups and open beer cans scattered around. Near the pool, De La Cruz lay unconscious, with blood visible on his body. A bystander was holding his head while another performed chest compressions. Police joined in resuscitation efforts until the McAllen Fire Department arrived to provide medical assistance.
Investigations revealed that Jaime Islas and his son were responsible for supplying alcohol to the minors at the party, including De La Cruz. Jaime Islas had asked his brother-in-law to host the party, suggesting it would be a small gathering, but it escalated beyond that.
Authorities discovered that party organizers were selling tickets to minors for $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Both Jaime Islas and his son were charged with providing alcohol to minors. Islas was arraigned and released on a $30,000 bond.
