A 21-year-old woman from Aylett, Virginia, identified as Kayla M. Healey, was fatally shot while sitting in a car along Battery Brooke Parkway in Chesterfield on August 7 at approximately 11:39 p.m.
Healey, a mother of two, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The area where the shooting occurred is known for car meet-ups and street racing.
Following the incident, police obtained warrants for Nibreya A. Kee, 29, and Rose M. Nadey, 39.
Kee faces charges including aggravated malicious wounding, firearm offenses, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Nadey is charged with conspiracy and other related offenses. Both suspects were arrested on August 12 in Fairfax, Virginia, by the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
“At this point, the investigation indicates Healey, Kee, Nadey and others were involved in an altercation at an event on Battery Brooke Parkway last week,” a Chesterfield Police spokesperson said. “During that altercation, Kee shot Healey, who was sitting in a vehicle at the time. Police continue their investigation into this incident, and additional charges are pending for the suspects.”
Kayla’s family set up a GoFundMe to help with unexpected burial costs.
“My name is Jamie Healey and I’m raising money for the funeral of my daughter in-law whose life was taken,” the GoFundMe read. “Kayla didn’t deserve this. I’m asking u if it’s only a few dollars to please help us and her family get her the proper funeral. Thank u.”
