A video captured a Spanish Civil Guard police boat running over a migrant dinghy off Horcas Coloradas beach in Melilla, Spain. The footage, recorded on Sunday, shows a small motorboat, carrying four African migrants including a girl, being chased by a border vessel.
Despite warnings from the Royal Marine Gendarmerie to halt, the Spanish Civil Guard boat swerved and ran over the dinghy. This caused the boat to capsize and at least one person to fall into the water. According to RTVE Noticias, the Government Delegation in Melilla confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
Reports indicate that the migrants were attempting to travel from Morocco to Melilla. A Moroccan NGO has called for an investigation, while the Melilla government delegation stated that the Civil Guard’s actions were a “normal procedure” aimed at preventing unauthorized arrivals.
