A suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal carjacking of 90-year-old Navy veteran Nelson Beckett in Houston. Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux, 21, faces charges of capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and tampering with evidence.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday at the Lonestar Senior Living Apartments on Westbrae Parkway near Rainer Drive, where Beckett was shot and killed just outside his apartment building. His vehicle was later discovered about 10 minutes away at another apartment complex on Dunlap Street.
On Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a $10,000 reward from the state, adding to the $5,000 reward offered by Crime Stoppers, for information leading to the arrest of Beckett’s killer.
Following a thorough investigation by the Houston Police Department’s homicide division, along with the South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team, HPD Gang Division, and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Intelligence Division, Arceneaux was identified as the suspect. He was arrested on Tuesday and subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.
Beckett, a U.S. Navy veteran, was remembered fondly by his friends and family. His daughter described him as the “kindest and funniest man you’d ever meet,” and others called him a “very caring man.”
