A mother in Hialeah, accused of pushing her 1-year-old daughter out of a car, allegedly did so out of anger after the child spilled shampoo, according to details from an arrest warrant. Tasshay Mills, 29, now faces charges of child abuse and neglect following an incident that sparked a missing child alert, though the girl was later found safe.
The warrant reveals that a passenger in the car witnessed the event, stating that Mills became enraged when her daughter spilled shampoo on the seat. Mills reportedly struck the child multiple times while the toddler cried, and her frustration escalated, leading her to open the rear door of the vehicle and push the child onto the asphalt.
After abandoning her daughter in the middle of the road, Mills reportedly made a U-turn and returned to the scene. A witness had already picked up the child and contacted authorities when Mills returned, confronting the witness.
Surveillance footage from a Ring camera captured part of the encounter, showing the witness holding the child while making a call to the police. “Hey, are you okay? It’s okay, I’m gonna sit down. Oh my God,” the woman is heard saying in the video. “Hello? I need you to come, I need you to come.”
Two vehicles then pulled up, and Mills exited one of them, approaching the witness. The witness shouted, “I’m not giving you this baby!” to which Mills responded, “That is my baby!” before grabbing the child and walking away. “Oh my God! I need you guys to come, she f—ing snatched the baby out of my hands!” the witness continued on the phone.
According to the warrant, the child had sustained injuries, including gravel embedded in her face and arm, a head wound, and difficulty breathing. Witnesses also took photos of Mills’ license plate, which helped law enforcement identify her.
A Hialeah Police detective later contacted Mills, instructing her to take the child to a hospital. Though Mills initially agreed, she failed to follow through. The detective visited her home but did not find her there. When Mills was reached again, she claimed to be waiting for transportation but refused to disclose the child’s location for medical examination.
A woman who had been in the car during the incident later provided police with information on Mills’ whereabouts, leading officers to find her at a friend’s house in Miramar. The friend then directed police to a location in Opa-locka, where the child was found and taken to Jackson North Medical Center for evaluation.
Mills, who was initially arrested in Broward County, was later transferred to a Miami-Dade jail. During questioning, Mills claimed she had pulled over to clean the car seat, though additional statements were redacted from the warrant. She appeared before a judge on Wednesday and was granted a $7,500 bond, with a public defender appointed to her case.
