Dr. Anthony Fauci, the 83-year-old former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was briefly hospitalized earlier this week after contracting West Nile virus.
“Tony Fauci has been hospitalized with a case of West Nile virus. He is now home and is recovering. A full recovery is expected,” the spokesperson said.
West Nile virus, commonly transmitted by infected mosquitoes, can cause symptoms such as muscle aches, fever, sore throat, and loss of appetite. The virus has a fatality rate of about 3-15% in severe cases.
