Video footage has revealed a shocking attack in downtown Dallas, where a man assaulted a woman in broad daylight. The incident took place around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Elm Street and Field Street.
Security footage from The Drakestone apartments shows the moment the woman, standing at the corner, was struck in the head by a man wielding what appears to be a pole. The sudden and forceful blow caused her to collapse immediately. The attacker then walked away casually, leaving the woman unconscious.
The woman was transported to a hospital, but her current condition remains unknown. Downtown Dallas, Inc. reported that their security officers responded swiftly, arriving within minutes of the assault.
Jennifer Scripps, President and CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc., expressed her dismay at the unprovoked nature of the attack. “We’re horrified by this unprovoked attack,” Scripps told CBS News. “We are praying for the victim’s recovery and working with law enforcement to locate the attacker.”
Scripps also emphasized the commitment to safety, stating, “Our partners at Dallas City Hall share in our outrage, and we will work together to ensure downtown remains a safe place for all residents, workers, and visitors. We have zero tolerance for violent crime.”
Witness Noah Robertson, who lives in the area, described his shock to Fox4. “I’ve never seen somebody just hit somebody and walk away like nothing happened, especially someone who at least appears to not know the other person,” Robertson said. “That lady is just standing there, and that guy hits her for like absolutely no reason. That’s crazy.”
Robertson added, “Downtown is usually pretty cool. But I have seen some crazy stuff down here. It gets wild down here at night, for sure.”
The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
